Caring for Life

Caring for Life is a charity which we support through St Chad's charitable giving.  As many will know, it is based in Cookridge at Crag House Farm where varied projects are run to offer work, companionship and love to vulnerable people who have often had a deeply difficult early life, resulting in great hardship and social exclusion in adulthood.

Crag House Farm has cows, sheep and hens, does horticulture, art and craft, and woodwork - all of which result in excellent products to sell from the shop on the farm.  They also do conservation work, adult literacy, teach office skills, have drama activities and run a wonderful café, the Granary Café, which opens Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm.

Caring for Life is a Christian organisation, set up originally by Leeds Reformed Baptist Church, when members realised the needs of homeless young men who had begun going to services in the church.  From beginnings in 1986/7, there are now two houses for men and women and a Housing Support Project for those living independently in flats in Leeds. The Farm provides the base for daytime activities.  'For Life' means a commitment for the whole lifetime of those who are supported.

If you have not yet been there, do visit (see the hours above). You will be very pleased by what you see.  A couple of special days are coming up, giving extra opportunities to go and support Caring for Life : Saturday 14 th May - Plant Sales Day; Saturday 18 th June - Open Day.

Their website is: www.caringforlife.co.uk
