Charities North Leeds Food Bank Churches throughout Leeds, are working together to establish Food Banks in each section of our city. These banks will operate under the guidelines of a Christian organisation, the Trussel Trust. This will ensure a common ethos in each location, and within similar Food Banks throughout the country. The purpose of the food bank is to offer support in a crisis, and to assist people access other agencies for long term help. Access will be through a voucher from a local professional, such as GP or Social Worker. On arrival at the Food Bank, users of the service will be welcomed, before meeting with trained volunteers who would advise about any appropriate alternative agencies. This is done in a cafe style setting, with meals available. The voucher is then exchanged for 3 days of food. There will be a limit of 3 vouchers per user each year. In North Leeds the organising groups are looking to identify a suitable location, and to set up a team of volunteers. To learn more you can contact leedsfoodbank@gmail.com or The St Chad's Fund.
